Is Your Child Ready for Coding?

We are often asked by parents with young kids when is the right time to start coding (none have asked me when to learn AI, but they will soon).

Here are three questions to help you decide:

  1. Is your child curious to know how things work? If you think Yes or Sometimes, keep going! If it is a no, that's ok. Some kids don't find joy in coding. We encourage kids to tinker with Scratch at home first.

  2. Do they enjoy sharing ideas or showing what they made? They don't have to enjoy sharing with everyone. It could just be you or their best friend. This can be either Yes or No, but we often hear Yes from parents, even for kids who are very shy.

  3. Can your child read independently? This only matters because we use Roblox Studio and reading is required. It is very well known that kids who are not readers can still learn and apply coding fundamentals. We always recommend the Scratch Jr app as the best play to start for our youngest kids. If it is a yes, your child is ready to code!

Once they are ready, and would like to start with Ember, the next step is to schedule a complimentary 30-minute private coding session. At the end of their session, they'll showcase their work to you!
