Is Your Child Ready for Coding?

We are often asked by parents with young kids when is the right time to start coding or when to learn how to use AI.

Here are three questions to help you decide:

  1. Is your child curious to know how things work? If you think Yes or Sometimes, keep going! If it is a no, that's ok. Some kids don't find joy in building technology. We encourage kids to tinker with Scratch at home first.

  2. Do they enjoy sharing ideas or showing what they made? They don't have to enjoy sharing with everyone. It could just be you or their best friend. This can be either Yes or No, but we often hear Yes from parents, even for kids who are very shy.

  3. Can your child read independently? This matters because reading is required for coding and in prompting a LLM. However, it is well researched that kids who are not yet readers can still learn and apply coding fundamentals. We always recommend the Scratch Jr app at home as the best play to start for our youngest kids. If your child can read independently, then your child is ready to code!

Once they're ready to start with Ember, the next step is to schedule a complimentary 30-minute private coding session. At the end, your child will showcase their work to you.
