Celebrating Our First Cohort of Ember Scholars

This year, we partnered with a local PTA and non-profit partner to offer seventeen $1,000+ merit-based scholarships for students to attend Ember Coding Lab.
Students participated in tryouts at the start of the school year to earn their place. Over the months that followed, they logged 400+ hours of coding and built 50+ projects.
Roblox Coding: Scholars learned 3D modeling skills, sequencing, functions and loops while designing, crafting, and building projects they deeply cared about to completion. They also learned teamwork, time prioritization during development, and how to persist through challenging coding projects.
Python Coding: Our curriculum is mapped to the Algorithms and Programming requirements (Big Idea 3) of the AP Computer Science Principles exam. Scholars learned to solve coding problems with logic, creativity and grit.
At a time when LLMs are diminishing some young people's desire to learn, we are ensuring they feel the value of slowing down, thinking through a problem and feeling accomplished when they figure it out.
Huge thanks to our non-profit partner and PTA for making this possible. We can't wait to welcome more Scholars next year!
